ADHD: "It Takes One to Know One!"
Do ADD/ADHD children outgrow it when they reach puberty?
In about 25% of the cases 80% of the hyperactivity goes away - but not the inattention - which is for life.
Isn't ADD/ADHD just due to bad parenting?
No - children are born with it - have it at birth and it never goes away.
If a child is on ADHD medication - will he more likely use alcohol - nicotine -
caffine or street drugs as a teenager?
Rarely - it is the reverse - non-medicated ADHD teens & adults are 75% likely
to have addictive behaviors by self-medicating. - such as nicotene - alchohol - caffine - street drug.
Is there just one medication for ADHD children?
No - there are several that help depending on the child.
What about natural supplements?
There have been some positive results with certain ones.
What about psychophysiological feedback - biofeedback?
Yes - it shows great promise in teaching self-control & learning how to be "Mr. Calm" (the ability to calm the brain which helps the hyperactivity in the brain).
What about helping parents learn how to coach their child.
Individual therapy alone just does not work - but with family therapy - I teach the parents how to help their child - what they can do to be part of the solution.
Are all ADHD children hyperactive?
No - all ADHD children have hyperactive brains and the other symptoms without having hyperactive behavior - boys tend to be more hyperactive.
Is it possible that ADHD children have co-existing problems?
40-65% have Oppositional Defiant Disorder - 25-45% Conduct Disorder -
30-35% LD - 34% Anxiety Disrorders - 15-27% Depression and mood swings with many having a degree of Asperger's Disorder - not connecting - lacking empathy.
What about adults - can they have ADHD?
Yes - if you are born with ADHD - you may outgrow most of the hyperactivity behavior - but never outgrow the hyperactive brain.  Many undiagnosed adults
self-medicate with nicotine - alcohol - street drugs and caffine to help them cope.
What about NO MEDS?
The parents' choice - some children who have strong support can learn to
self-control with biofeedback training - but the brain is still hyperactive.
Can ADHD adults be helped?
YES - if the person really wants help & ready to make to make some changes.
Aren't we over-diagnosing ADHD?
Only 1 out of 4 are ADHD are being diagnosed - others self-medicate.
Are there other signs of ADHD?
6-35% delay in talking - 10-54% have speech problems such as stutterng -
46% accident prone - 39% night walking - 50% social relationship problems.

It is not easy finding a therapist who understands ADHD
children or adults who are ADHD.
Sometimes it just takes one to know one.
That just might be why I have been so successful in helping families
with ADHD children and adults with ADHD.
There is help without medication but if your child is already on
medication and not improving enough - then maybe it is time to get
help from someone who is ADHD - who gets it & can help.
Individual therapy alone just does not work but family therapy
teaches the parents how to help their child - to work with their child and biological feedback teaches the person how to self-control the brain & their behavior.
